CCAP Hartford Rolling Anvils

CCAP Hartford Rolling Anvil Youth Cycling Club's core mission is to eliminate the barriers of economic status, racial prejudice, and preconceived notions of cycling, to make the benefits of cycling accessible to underrepresented youth in the Hartford area.

Team practices will take place primarily in Keney Park and on Hartford Riverfront trails. We occasionally ride on the open road, after each participant has reached a level of confidence and capability to ride in the pack. There will be trips to other riding locations, and transportation will be provided.

Equipment and scholarships are available to riders who qualify.

What is a Rolling Anvil?

The Rolling Anvils was the name for a regiment of Buffalo Soldiers in 1896-1897 who were involved in a series of experimental expeditions, essentially bike packing rides, 126 miles, 500 miles and then a grand ride of 1900 miles from Missoula, Montana to St. Louis, Missouri. Their heavy-duty steel bikes and all of their gear came out to be close to 100 lbs and, because of this, they called themselves the Rolling Anvils.
