Go get em, Penny Moses!

This interview originally appeared in the April 2023 CCAP newsletter

Penelope (Penny) Moses and her entire family have greatly added to the CCAP Community. Penny has come into her own in the last couple of seasons, and she is a fabulous example and inspiration for young girls who like riding bikes (and who enjoy getting a bit dirty on the trails at the same time).

Penny, what do you like the most about cycling?

Penny -"What I most like about cycling is how I get to ride with a pack, but I can train on my own and have my own goals. Also, I have always loved mud, so whenever there's a race with a muddy section, I get super stoked."

What do you like about being on a cycling team?

Penny - "By being on a cycling team, I am surrounded by supportive people and kids who also love bikes. From the beginning, I've noticed what a supportive environment CCAP cycling is. Whether at MTB practice, a hot Road Race, or the first Cross of the season, I always have fun.  Even though my parents said I didn't have to race, I soon became enthralled in the thrill of racing."

What do you hope to accomplish on the bike in 2023?

Penny - "I have two main goals for 2023, I discovered gravel riding last year and loved it, so this year I'm going to ride the D2R2 and other gravel events, so I need to have good endurance. Also, I have focused on building power for racing, but this year I have decided that it would be more beneficial for me to learn and work on race tactics."

Penny's mom Nancy says, "Penny has always loved bikes. When Penny's dad, now a CCAP Coach, Tim saw a sign advertising the CCAP Farmington Valley Spring mountain bike team Signup, he took her to the informational meeting. She came home excited and told me she would race Mountain Bikes. That first year, she did MTB and CX in the Fall. Penny now does ALL of the seasons and participates in the winter on the Zwift sessions that CCAP offers and enjoys it.

Penny has learned self-confidence and met so many supportive people (both coaches and other parents). She has learned some excellent skills that carry over into her life, like time management and setting goals."

The CCAP aims to provide cycling opportunities to girls such as Penny. You can lend your support by volunteering at a CCAP event or, even better, by coaching a regional cycling team.
